Radha is too annoyed with Krishna to let him near. When he sees his entreaties are in vain, he disguises himself as Radha’s girlfriend, who has been carrying messages back and forth. First soothing her with music on the vina he
carries, he reveals his identity to Radha when her anger abates. The island greenery is lush and thick, and like her
passions, intensified by their containment.

This theme is from one of the many poems that followed the Gita Govinda, inspired by its exploration of the love, quarrels, and reconciliation of Radha and Krishna. The sensuous beauty of the theme is just its surface. The
concept of god adopting disguises, and of pursuing his
worshippers inspires mystical interpretations of great beauty.
