Goyo
Son of Hashiguchi Kanemizu, samurai and amateur painter in Shijo style. Took Goyo name while in art school for his fondness of the five needle pine in his father's garden. Shifted to Western-style painting under Kuroda Seiki at Tokyo School of Fine Arts. Designed illustrations/layout for Natsume Soseki's novel I Am a Cat. From 1918 until death he personally supervised the carving, painting, and publication of his own works.
