Belonged to the 12th generation of a Kyoto family designated as official artists for the famous Honganji Temple. Studied Japanese style oil painting. Attended Kyoto School of Arts and Crafts and the Kyoto Art College. Learned woodblock techniques from Uni'chi Hiratsuka.
