Created in 1872, the bridge depicted in this photograph curves ninety-two feet above the river below. At the time of its creation, it was considered to be a tremendous engineering feat for Mexico. Several artists, including the most renowned Mexican landscape painter Jose Maria Velasco, depicted this particular bridge. This photograph suggests the modernization and industrialization of Mexico through the building of a railroad system, which facilitated the export of goods to the coasts and to the Northern regions of the country.
