The Garner collection provides a look at the evolution of Siskind’s career. Originally interested in street photography, by the 1940s he shifted his focus toward experimental photography, favoring found objects as his subject matter. He frequently revisited the unpredictable shapes of nature throughout his career, and in a reflection of his own personal attraction to certain shapes, Siskind's close-up studies of organic material thoughtfully expose the textures, line, and form of these products of the earth.
