Focused on everyday subject matter, Walker Evans was a master of vernacular photography. He famously documented farmers affected by the Dust Bowl for the Farm Security Administration, and illustrated James Agee’s ambitious examination of sharecropper lives in Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. These later photos exhibit his quiet and grounded sensibility when depicting architecture, and unembellished observations of the environment civilization had made for itself.
