May S. Marcy Sculpture Court and Garden brochure, c. 1975
An animal sculptor in the tradition of Bayre and Borglum, she has produced works of animal life on a larger-than-life-size scale. Her "Youth Taming the Wild" gives the impression of power and vitality, of man's attempt to harness nature's forces. "El Cid" in the center of the Park, conveys a similar sense of strength and courage befitting the Spanish folkhero's feat in unifying Spain. "Diana" reveals the artist's skill in treating the human figure with a grace, almost a delicacy, contrasted to the other works on view here.
