May S. Marcy Sculpture Court and Garden brochure, c. 1975
The sculpural monolith is modeled after the pick with which Japanese geishas play the samisen, a stringed guitar-like instrument. According to the artist it tells of being broadminded as suggested by the spreading out of the lines at the top. He spends hours polishing surfaces until they are sensuously beautiful, allowing subtle accents of original stone texture to remind one of the original links to nature. This textural contrast is vital to the artist's concept.
