Claire Falkenstein (1908-1997) was one of the most experimental and international sculptors of the twentieth century. She worked in Tokyo as part of the ‘Gutai Group’, as well as Paris with ‘Art Autre’, New York, and Los Angeles. 
Fascinated by the way art can interrelate with science, she was inspired by Einstein’s ideas of infinite space in her use of repeating and intersecting sculptural forms.  
She created Accelerated Point in 1974 specifically for the San Diego Museum of Art Wimmer Pool.  In this work the space between forms is explored with the elements of air, metal, and water. The industrial copper tubing gives the sculpture weight to balance the lightness of its open forms, will patinate naturally over time with the water and air surrounding it, and creates a dynamic sense of motion.

Motion is a byword which can be applied to the work of this dedicated Southern California artist. The rhythms of the sculpture are intend to be in complete concert witht flowing water which is its setting as well an an integral part of the artist's concept. A sensitivity to life's rhythms and motions is the core of her creative expression. Her works seem in constant movement as they twist and turn in upon themselves.
