Nandalal Bose Exhibition
Nandalal created many drawings of the daily activities of the Nulia fishermen on his travels to Gopalpur, near Puri on the coast of Orissa. Here, he renders the waves with more fanciful and stylized forms. On the representation of water, Nandalal wrote in 1956: “The sphere is the symbol of water; it becomes a circle in two-dimensional space. By itself the shape of water is globular; this changes when it comes into or against something else. While flowing on the earth it forms circular whirls, under the wind’s impact undulating waves. Being liquid and heavy at the same time, its lines bend downward. . . .”
