One of the most powerful divinities of the Hindu pantheon, Vishnu stands next to his consort, Shri Devi, with one of his four arms tenderly encircling her waist. He is presented as a royal figure with a high crown, jewelry, and other attributes of power. Below them on the front of the base is Vishnu’s mount, the man-eagle Garuda. In the architectural setting of this work, above the central figures, is a lotus flower, and on either side are vyalas, griffin-like creatures that embody the creative energy of the divinities as it emanates into the world.
