The city of Kashan was an important center for luster ceramic production. Objects from this area are characterized by scrawling inscriptions, usually Persian poetry, and figures with moon-shaped faces similar to those in contemporary book illustration. The courtly figure on this tile is similar to the ones on the bronze bowl nearby.
