In 1908 when the Cubist paintings of Picasso and Braque appeared Archipenko became facinated with them and worked in the Cubist style in sculpture. When he came to the United Staes in 1923 he was hailed as the "greatest sculptor since Rodin" and remained an early experimentor and influential teacher. To feel the great sense of movement in "Turning Torso" walk all around the sculpture to observe the figure carefully from all angles.
