The Eight Daoist Immortals have been a popular codified group since the twelfth century. For the most part they were historical persons who lived during the Tang and Song periods of the eighth through twelfth centuries and became mythologized as Daoist “immortals.” Each has a detailed biography, often with legendary embellishments. This impressive set shows an elegant, idealized, and flawless depiction of these beloved saints. Though they have some bizarre characteristics, they are all focused on being benevolent to mankind, practicing the Daoist arts of longevity and achieving immortality.
