May S. Marcy Sculpture Court and Garden brochure, c. 1975
One of the world's Modern Surrealist Masters, Miro's sculpture conveys the same sense of energy, fun and imagination as his oil paintings which are to be found in most of the major museums throughout the world. He arrived at bronze casting through his work with ceramics which began in the 1940's. In 1966 he produced two major monumental cast bronze pieces, our and a companion work. "Lunar Bird". Not a bird in a real sense but rather one of fancy and imagination, the sculpture allows for an ambiguous interpretation on the part of the viewer.
