Bronze, inlaid with silver and black compound
This bowl is ornamented around the rim and around the base with bands of writing, probably conveying repeated wishes for blessings. In the center are twelve medallions containing courtly figures, holding wine cups and playing instruments, seated against a dense background of geometric patterning. Each of these decorative elements was originally inlaid with silver such that they would have stood out against the yellowish-brown background of the bronze.
