Asian Reinstallation
This type of eye or nose protector would have been vertically fitted to the center-front of a helmet by the bracket.
Arabic inscriptions in gold cover each part of the protector: on the top segment is a verse from the holy book of Islam, the Koran; on the bottom is an inscription asking for protection from the Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law, Ali. Also inscribed on the central segment is a verse from the Koran that was invoked by soldiers prior to going to battle, so that they can be assured of reaching heaven, should they meet death on the battlefield.
